The Chapel building in Ormesby was built in the 19th century and has been the home of Light of Life Baptist Church since the 1980s. In 2012 we moved our Sunday services to All Saints Parish Hall in Scratby, a bigger building to accommodate our growing church. At the same time, we invested into The Chapel by building a new kitchen and toilets. The new facilities have enabled us to serve the community better through our long standing drop-in and lunch club on Tuesdays. The Chapel has also hosted youth clubs, children’s holiday clubs and charity fundraising events.
In 2014 our church started to explore the potential of The Chapel to serve the community further. With help from the Tearfund Catalyst project, we researched the needs of Ormesby St Margaret community and worked how we could make a difference. In January 2015 we agreed to turn The Chapel into a community café. During 2015 we gave the building a makeover, invested in new furniture and equipment, trained up our volunteers and appointed our café coordinator Lynn. The Chapel Coffee House opened its doors for the first time on 12th September 2015. Today we employ Carolyn part time as our Cafe Manager, Gina part time as our Cafe Assistant, and have over 40 volunteers working with us.
We would like to thank and acknowledge our funding partners; Tearfund Catalyst, Love Norfolk, Bernard Matthews, Dreams and Visions, Tesco Bags for Help and NFU Mutual.
